Power of STATEMENT Jewelry!

I could go and on about this topic, however I will try to keep it brief. I cannot stress how important it is to have a few pieces of statement jewelry in your wardrobe. It is reassured to me everyday how much one necklace, the perfect ring or earrings complete the outfit; they give the outfit just what it was missing. This is also where you can have fun with your outfit showing off how cool, elegant, sophisticated you are. Even if you have to wear a suit to work you can still have fun with the jewelry and let your personal style show through. My rule of thumb is you must have balance with your jewelry. If you are going to wear a big necklace the earrings need to be small or vice versa. Let the statement piece shine without competing with others, the other pieces should only complement the focal piece. Depending on the occasion will often help you decide what statement you will want to make with your jewelry.

For example, lets take a basic black dress and you are going to 2 different events during the week. The first one is a luncheon with your girlfriends. To downplay the dress and make it more casual and fun I would wear a chunky necklace, a cocktail ring and bracelet. The necklace is the statement piece and the rest are just to tie it into the entire outfit. Also its always good to balance up and down. Just like balancing with big and small you must balance up and down. Ok, now you are going to your second event of the week, your girlfriends engagement party (semi-formal). So to play up this dress I would suggest large chandelier earrings (in proportion to your face and hair) with bangles or a fantastic cuff and cocktail ring if you want to be extra sassy! Wearing chandelier earrings creates a softer look more sophisticated and even glamorous if you chose ones with bling! :) When shopping for statement jewelry I think it is ok to splurge. Jewelry you will wear time and time again with many different outfits unlike a unique top or fancy dress. You also want your jewelry to last and not rust or break. I always suggest splurging on the accessories and spending less on the actual clothing. But there are also rules to that which I will get to another time.

Also, when choosing my jewelry I definitely have go to designers. One of my favorite jewelry designers is Alexis Bittar who has also been named one of "Greatest Jewelry Designers of the 21st Century". He creates pieces that are timeless, classy yet funky and always make a statement. The lucite collections are utterly fantastic they glow from a distance and can turn any dull outfit into a great one! If you watched "Sex and the City" then you have seen Alexis Bittar time and time again being worn by all the women especially Samantha.

My favorite piece right now...(this would be for a daytime look).

What is your favorite statement piece?
